If your flask is 100% steel how come there is no heat transfer?
All modern flasks are made this way. Our difference is the screw in lid is metal too + the mug when stored on top adds more insulation. The reason there is no heat transfer is that there are 2 walls/skins. Internal which holds the liquid. External which is what you hold. There is space in between the 2 walls. Air from the space has been sucked out so there is vacuum, which does not transfer heat. The two skins are welded together at the top. This small bridge loses very little heat and makes little difference. Last updated: Tue, Jun 21 2016 6:27 am EDT
How long will it keep liquid hot / cold?
We don’t have a precise measure yet but it WILL be longer than any vacuum flask with a plastic cap. Plastic caps do NOT have vacuum inside and lose heat. Our cap has a vacuum cavity inside which completely isolates temperature. At current we only have a prototype flask, which is not the same as the final production version - the production version will have outstanding heat retention properties. We are doing our best to work out a more precise heat and cold retention figure as soon as possible and let you all know. Last updated: Tue, Jun 21 2016 6:31 am EDT
How much does it weigh?
The weight is about 750 grams (1.65 lbs). Last updated: Tue, Jun 21 2016 6:31 am EDT
Are there any special cleaning instructions?
Hot water, washing up liquid + hard brush - stick it in the dishwasher if you want for an extra thorough clean. Last updated: Tue, Jun 21 2016 6:31 am EDT
I don’t see any rubber gaskets, just metal on metal will never be tight enough to hold back steam pressure – at least not for long so how is that supposed to work?
There are rubber o-ring gaskets as indeed without them the flask would leak. We will actually be shipping the flask with some spare ones. It should be easy to buy online replacements if you need any. Most vacuum flasks have narrow openings, because heat is lost through the lid. Since this flask has a vacuum lid, could the opening be wider? The wider opening may be an idea but if you’re pouring tea/coffee/etc in and out a lot then the heat will be lost quickly every time you open the flask. Drinking straight from the mouth (a chilled/iced drink) would be harder also. We tried to keep it about right between too narrow and wide enough - for soup, ice cubes, etc. Last updated: Tue, Jun 21 2016 6:31 am EDT
Could you tell me some more about the lifetime warranty?
The lifetime warranty will provide free replacement or repair of any FF from manufacturing defects. If you drop yours from a 10 story building balcony we won’t be able to replace it unfortunately :) But even if yours has a weld come apart 5 years after the purchase - we’ll still replace it for free. Life time warranty: 1) funds will be deposited into the Forever Flask Ltd co which will be set up prior to fund transfer. 2) Flasks will be kept back in storage for replacements 3) If you have a fault, most likely this will manifest in the first few months, perhaps 1-2 years 4) if for whatever reason you do get a weld come apart many years later - we will replace it. 5) most likely we will launch other pure stainless steel products after FF to combat food in plastic so the company will be around for a while. To be clear, our lifetime warranty will not be replacing flasks which have been banged with a hammer or placed under a tank. Defects only, not extreme damage. Could I have some more information on dimensions?
The diameter of the bottom storage area is 80mm (3.1 inches) and the depth is 15mm (0.6 inch). The outer flask diameter is 90mm (3.5 inch). Last updated: Tue, Jun 21 2016 6:31 am EDT
Could you tell me more about the attachable Velcro handle?
The velcro (silicone backed for good grip) strap is very versatile and can be used as a handle, to attach a carrying shoulder strap or put a carabiner through for clipping onto whatever you like! Last updated: Tue, Jun 21 2016 6:31 am EDT
I thought BPA free plastic was good to use?
Not any more. New research has come out showing that even the “good” BPA free plastic is bad for you. Steel has been used by humans for thousands of years and we know it’s safe. Which is why ForeverFlask is 100% Surgical Steel. Here are some recent publications on it: http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/bpa-free-plastic-containers-may-be-just-as-hazardous/ http://edition.cnn.com/2016/02/01/health/bpa-free-alternatives-may-not-be-safe/ http://time.com/3742871/bpa-free-health/ Last updated: Tue, Jun 21 2016 6:31 am EDT
What type of paint is used on the flasks (if the colour stretch goal is reached)? Will the paint chip or flake off?
We plan on using lead free powder coating or possibly acrylic resin. We will finalise this when we reach the stretch goal. With normal use, the paint should last for many years. With a bit more (ab)use - there will be a bit more wear. Last updated: Mon, Jul 4 2016 6:33 am EDT
How easy is it to dent the thermos?
It depends on too many factors. It is very durable and much more durable than other thermoses that have plastic handles etc. It is not nuclear blast proof though! If dropped on concrete from 1 metre it should be fine. Last updated: Mon, Jul 4 2016 4:22 pm EDT
How about a smaller version of the flask?
We have thought about this, however new moulds cost A LOT so we’ll only be able to do this when we reach the next stretch goal. Last updated: Mon, Jul 4 2016 4:22 pm EDT
Do you, or any team members, have any experience with manufacturing in China?
Yes - one of us has been working with factories in China for more than 10 years now. Last updated: Mon, Jul 4 2016 4:24 pm EDT
What is BackerKit?
BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!
The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.
How does BackerKit work?
After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.
I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?
The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.
Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.
To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.
How do I update my shipping address?
BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.
When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?
That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.
I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?
As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
